Friday Favourites

Blog Love:

  • While the focus is on nails, which is something I'm trying to work on better, this awsome set of tips on taking better photographs from The Digital Dozen has something helpful for everyone.
  • IF you're on a budget and want to try out the magical hair healing properties of Macadamia Oil then Beauty on a Budget has the thing for you, a one pound macadamia dupe!
  • I think I just found some more lip products to add to my slowly growing collection, MUA Luxe Velvet Laquers as swatched by Stay Beautiful
  • A unique idea for a top coat? Well The Polishaholic has a Dance Legend topcoat that will turn any polish into a textured one Top Sahara from Dance Legends
  • Slightly random for me to share amongst all the makeup and nails, but I really enjoyed seeing the photos Mish Mreow posted of her favourite cosplays from Birmingham Comic Con (and variety is the spice of life right?)

Other things I've been loving this week:

  • Chemical Free Is Not A Real Thing but also In Defence of Chemphobia (always good to see both sides)
  • Getting back into Goodreads. I read so much on the train to and from work and I wanted to keep track of what I've read this year. I used to have a goodreads account I hadn't updated in over a year, but realising they have an android app I could use to update on the go when I finished things rather than having to sign in at home or work made everything way easier. You can find me here if you'd like to (I'm still trying to fill in all the stuff I've read in the past few years and possibly before).
  • Beauty Redefined Blog

Dislikes:

Lately I keep feeling like maybe I really suck at the blog thing, especially seeing people with 500+ or 1000+ followers on blogs only a few months old. It just makes me wonder what I'm doing that is so wrong. Maybe I'm too old to run a beauty blog on a budget, and too unwilling to just snatch up all the latest releases (with the exception of Barry M polishes evidently!) or spend what I see as big sums of money. I still balk at the price of Maybelline lipsticks, let alone anything MAC or Urban Decay ('real' high end makeup like Clinique and YSL is likely to give me an infarction somewhere!). I don't know, perhaps I'm just tired with so many long days and illness recently.

  1. thank you for linking me up! Also don't feel shitty for having less followers. i've been there and just stepped away from the whole blogging thing for a week or two and didn't give any shits anymore.

It doesn't really help that we're slightly less commercial/accessible in our own way simply for being a wee bit alternative. Everytime I hear of a new 'popular'/'famous blogger and look at their site I'm usually rather meh as it just doesn't appeal to me. A lot of them tend to be VERY similar to me imho.

tl;dr, just be yourself? Blog for yourself? See what you can improve on your own blog rather than focus on others maybe? I have no idea, it's what I did to make me feel better basically.
