St Patrick's Day

Naturally I wanted to do something a bit green for St Patricks, with a touch of gold added for luck and fortune. If you're wondering why St Patrick's is green then here's some interesting info I picked up from trusty wikipedia

On St. Patrick's Day it is customary to wear shamrocks and/or green clothing or accessories (the "wearing of the green"). St Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish. This story first appears in writing in 1726, though it may be older. In pagan Ireland, three was a significant number and the Irish had many triple deities, a fact that aided St Patrick in his evangelisation efforts. The wearing of the 'St Patrick's Day Cross', especially in the World War I era, by the Irish, was also a popular custom. These St Patrick's Day Crosses have a Celtic Christian cross made of paper that is "covered with silk or ribbon of different colours, and a bunch or rosette of green silk in the centre."

The colour green has been associated with Ireland since at least the 1640s, when the green harp flag was used by the Irish Catholic Confederation. Green ribbons and shamrocks have been worn on St Patrick's Day since at least the 1680s. Green was adopted as the colour of the Friendly Brothers of St Patrick, an Irish fraternity founded in about 1750. However, when the Order of St. Patrick—an Anglo-Irish chivalric order—was founded in 1783 it adopted blue as its colour. This led to blue being associated with St Patrick. In the 1790s, green became associated with Irish nationalism when it was used by the United Irishmen. This was a republican organisation—led mostly by Protestants but with many Catholic members—who launched a rebellion in 1798 against British rule. The phrase "wearing of the green" comes from a song of the same name, which laments United Irishmen supporters being persecuted for wearing green. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's Day grew.

Used: Victorian Disco Sailor Jupiter (Makoto) on the inner & outer corners for the halo, Shiro's Snake and Rupee in the center of the lid, Meow Heiroglyph in the crease and on the lower lashline. The eyeliner is Geek Chic's Eldritch and my bows are (of course) They're After Me Lucky Charms from Shiro.

Battle of the Five Armies look

This is the look I wore to go see The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies just before Christmas. I couldn't 100% remember what I used to put this together, but I pieced it together from the makeup I took home with me.

Used: Victorian Disco Helga as the gold in the center, Victorian Disco Godric on the inner and outer corners, Shiro The Last Homely House in the crease and blended out above it. Glitter is Victorian Disco UAV. Brows are Victorian Disco Salazar and Rowena (mostly Rowena). The liner is Extreme Liner from Collection 2000, the mascara is Maybelline Collosal.

I later pretty much recreated it using slightly different products:

Didn't get a good picture but this was Meow Hieroglyph and Aromaleigh Rubicante, and Victorian Disco Salazar brows.

Blue and Gold

Long time no post? Work got super busy after my convention and I haven't caught up yet, sorry. I'll hopefully be back to normal posting soon. Until then, here's a quick blue and gold look from a couple of weeks ago.

Used: Victorian Disco Evenstar on the center of the lid, Meow Heirogylph on the inner corner, Darling Girl Friday I'm in Love across the rest of the lid, Fyrinnae Mephisto in the crease and Darling Girl Survival Instinct as liner. Brows are Fyrinnae Meerkat.

Pumpkin Spice

Autumn, time of the pumpkin. Also a great time to break out the oranges and greens for a seasonally appropriate eyeshadow look.

Used: Shiro Snake on the inner corner, Darling Girl Ripley's Cat over the lid, Victorian Disco Godric on the outer edge of the lid, Meow Telekenisis above the crease and Black Rose Minerals Spike as the liner and very lightly in the crease. Brows are probably Fyrinnae's Conjuror (if not they'll be Victorian Disco Hero Class, I forget).

Green and orange, it looks good. And Snake makes such a nice inner corner pop of brightness.

The Hieroglyph Lies

 I wanted to experiment with gold and purple and reversing the usual ways I use these two colours together, which tends to be either as a gold highlight in the middle or gold on the lid with a purple crease. Here I used the gold on the crease, with a purple lid using one of my lesser used purples. I hope you like it, I really enjoyed this look.

Used: Victorian Disco The Life and Lies and Room of Requirement on the lid, Meow Heiroglyph on the crease blended out into Detrivore's Autopsy as a highlight. The liner is Black Rose Minerals Jet and Eyeko skinny liner to define.

Clownin' Around

So this is a look I found hiding in completely the wrong place in my hard drive, it's from a couple of months ago back when I was still living at home. I can't promise I remember exactly what colours I used, but I'll try to have a good guess. I hope you like it anyway, the eyeliner was fun to do.

As I said I can't remember exactly what I used, the brows are Conjouring from Fyrinnae, I think the gold is something like Helga from Victorian Disco or maybe Heiroglyph from Meow Cosmetics, possibly with a little Inevitable Betrayal from Geek Chic mixed in. The crease colour I'm pretty sure was 1000 Needles from Geek Chic. Eyeko skinny liner and probably Maybelline Falsies mascara.

Discworld Series: Moist Von Lipwig

It's been a long time since I posted anything from this series hasn't it? Sorry, I haven't forgotten it, though some of my inspiration for the characters has been waning (especially as it's hard to find good descriptions for a lot of them). Even more so since I lost my Kindle on a train back in May and along with it pretty much the entirety of my Discworld collection - especially all of my to-reads :(.

Swindler, con artist and fraud wanted dead in several cities, and currently Postmaster General and Master of the Royal Mint of Ankh-Morpork. Smitten with Adora Belle Dearheart, whom he calls "Spike". After a tough apprenticeship as her fiancé (note that it was not the other way around), they are, as of Raising Steam, married and resident in a property on upmarket Scoone Avenue, where they employ a domestic staff. He revived the postal service in Ankh-Morpork, inadvertently challenging the clacks company, which was stolen from Adora Belle Dearheart's family by a still much bigger fraudster, Reacher Gilt. Reacher Gilt is also rumoured to have had her brother, John Dearheart, killed. He folllowed this through by rescuing the fortunes of the Royal Bank and the Royal Mint.

Usually dressed all in gold in his capacity as Postmaster General (with corresponding wingèd golden hat; gold paint, of course), Moist was entrusted with the running of the clacks company after it was ascertained that Reacher Gilt and his gang of financial cronies had obtained the company by illegal means.

Moist is a character who very much grew on me. I actually first met him when I watched the Going Postal special on Sky One several years ago, having loved their version of the Hogfather (and I believe The Colour of Magic was also a predecessor to this), and honestly I found him irritating. Then I got around to reading the books and honestly in the books he was so much better! I really enjoyed his character, fell head over heels with Adora Belle, and was sucked in reading about his adventures and their relationship growing. Honestly if you didn't like the special you might still like book Moist, he's far more intelligent and well rounded in my opinion.

Used: Shiro Cosmetics Slave 23 on the inner corner, a combination of Victorian Disco Helga and Sailor Galaxia over the lid, Geek Chic Antediluvian on the outer corner and crease, Meow Cosmetics Heiroglyph as the brow colour and Femme Fatale Jewelled Scarab as a liner.

Of course I used all the golds I could! I had to try and capture the true majesty of the postmasters official gold suit! The green is for both the stamps and paper money Moist was instrumental in bringing to the Disc (well, he did invent it!). Sadly I didn't quite manage to get the railway in there, though I guess the darkness I used at the edge and crease to show his darker side - he is an 'ex' conman after all - would work.
