Discworld Series: Moist Von Lipwig

It's been a long time since I posted anything from this series hasn't it? Sorry, I haven't forgotten it, though some of my inspiration for the characters has been waning (especially as it's hard to find good descriptions for a lot of them). Even more so since I lost my Kindle on a train back in May and along with it pretty much the entirety of my Discworld collection - especially all of my to-reads :(.

Swindler, con artist and fraud wanted dead in several cities, and currently Postmaster General and Master of the Royal Mint of Ankh-Morpork. Smitten with Adora Belle Dearheart, whom he calls "Spike". After a tough apprenticeship as her fiancé (note that it was not the other way around), they are, as of Raising Steam, married and resident in a property on upmarket Scoone Avenue, where they employ a domestic staff. He revived the postal service in Ankh-Morpork, inadvertently challenging the clacks company, which was stolen from Adora Belle Dearheart's family by a still much bigger fraudster, Reacher Gilt. Reacher Gilt is also rumoured to have had her brother, John Dearheart, killed. He folllowed this through by rescuing the fortunes of the Royal Bank and the Royal Mint.
Usually dressed all in gold in his capacity as Postmaster General (with corresponding wingèd golden hat; gold paint, of course), Moist was entrusted with the running of the clacks company after it was ascertained that Reacher Gilt and his gang of financial cronies had obtained the company by illegal means.
Taken from the Lspace wiki page on Moist.

Moist is a character who very much grew on me. I actually first met him when I watched the Going Postal special on Sky One several years ago, having loved their version of the Hogfather (and I believe The Colour of Magic was also a predecessor to this), and honestly I found him irritating. Then I got around to reading the books and honestly in the books he was so much better! I really enjoyed his character, fell head over heels with Adora Belle, and was sucked in reading about his adventures and their relationship growing. Honestly if you didn't like the special you might still like book Moist, he's far more intelligent and well rounded in my opinion.

Moist Von Lipwig inspired makeup

Used: Shiro Cosmetics Slave 23 on the inner corner, a combination of Victorian Disco Helga and Sailor Galaxia over the lid, Geek Chic Antediluvian on the outer corner and crease, Meow Cosmetics Heiroglyph as the brow colour and Femme Fatale Jewelled Scarab as a liner.

Of course I used all the golds I could! I had to try and capture the true majesty of the postmasters official gold suit! The green is for both the stamps and paper money Moist was instrumental in bringing to the Disc (well, he did invent it!). Sadly I didn't quite manage to get the railway in there, though I guess the darkness I used at the edge and crease to show his darker side - he is an 'ex' conman after all - would work.

Discworld Series: Ankh-Morpork

After really loving the Sky adaptations of Discworld novels and being a fan of Terry Pratchett as a person for a while (and a big fan of his collaboration with Neil Gaiman - Good Omens), last year I finally started reading the Discworld series. I didn't exactly start from the beginning (I started with Snuff after someone at work insisted I would really enjoy it) but thankfully that doesn't change the enjoyment of the stories. I've read 18/40 so far (you can find my goodreads account here if you're interested).

Anyway, long story short, I've really fallen head over heels with the Discworld and what better way to express my love than with a series of looks inspired by the Discworld? I am a beauty blogger after all!

First up is the heart of Discworld the City of Ankh-Morpork

Ankh-Morpork is the largest city on the Disc with about a million inhabitants. It is also one of the most common locations for the Discworld stories. Its Latatian name is Ankhius et Morporkia. The city lies on the river Ankh, which resembles solid ground more than it does water. Originally two cities separated by the river, Ankh and Morpork today are governed as one (admittedly potentially schizophrenic) entity. Ankh-Morpork is a city state which governs few lands outside its perimeter, but it has a political and economic influence which "distorts the landscape for hundreds of miles".
(from the L-space wiki)

Used: Black Rose Minerals Skink on the inner corner, Innocent + Twisted Alchemy Contaminated Wastelands across the lid and for my brows, Shiro Cosmetics Oogie Boogie on the outer corner and crease, Femme Fatale Polymorph in the crease, Black Rose Minerals Jet as liner and Shiro Cosmetics Magnets on my lips

For this I took most of my inspiration from the grunge and grime, muddy browns with a green tinge taken from the River Ankh (because you know a River that doesn't move is going to grow slime), with darker colours in the crease to show the smog and darker side of the city and grey liner for the city streets. For the city this is a really wearable look (I wore it to work), one you could wear out in the city should you wish!

Darth Vader Inspired

Second week of the Dark Side of Beauty March Series challenge brings us your father the infamous Darth Vader, a voice recognised by fans and non-fans alike.

Once a Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker swore loyalty to Sith Lord Darth Sidious in order to gain the power of the dark side of the Force. Vader betrayed the Jedi Order and his Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. With the rise of the Galactic Empire, Darth Vader became the Emperor's dark enforcer. He carried out the Emperor's will, and commanded legions of Imperial troops. Vader was tasked with discovering the secret headquarters of the Rebel Alliance, as well as chasing down the Rebels who destroyed the Empire's massive Death Star battle station.

Used: Femme Fatale Unholy on inner corner and lower lashline, Geek Chic Baby over lid, Victorian Disco Kidnap Sandy Claws on outer corner, crease and in brow, Shiro Zero above the crease, Fyrinnae Scarlet Macaw on outer brow, Geek Chic Golden Trio as outer flick liner. Main liner was Collection Glam Crystals in Rock Chick.

Lots of blacks from the infamous costume and a flash of red for the lightsaber. I actually really like this look, bit much for everyday wear though (not that that would have stopped me!).

Smaug the Magnificent

This is an older look, the one I wore to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. It's taken me far too long to get photos edited. The colours I used in this were inspired by Smaug and his hoard of gold under the mountain.

Smaug Inspired Makeup
Used: Victorian Disco Amazing Bouncing Ferret on the inner corner [green tinge appeared from who knows where], Shiro Cornucopia on the center of the lid, Shiro Chiefest of Calamities on the outer corner, Darling Girl Ripley's Cat [I think] in the crease. Liner is Collection Glam Crystals in Dig It over the Extreme black liner, with a little Funk at the edges. Brows are Rimmel pink eyeliner and Femme Fatale Dispersion. Not 100% with what I used on my lips, I think it was Amazing Bouncing Ferret again.

Seven Deadly Sins: Lust

[image for banner is from the stunning seven deadly sins series by dahlig on deviantART]

This is a series I've been meaning to do for a while, especially after seeing Deja and Klaire De Lys's amazing takes on the sins. I love the seven deadly sins as a thematic element in the bible and in pop culture with everything from horror movies like Se7en, to TV shows like Supernatural to the classic Dante's Inferno and the video game that inspired.

Lust or lechery (carnal "luxuria") is an intense desire. It is usually thought of as excessive sexual want; however, the word was originally a general term for desire. Therefore lust could involve the intense desire of money, food, fame, or power as well.
In Dante's Purgatorio, the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts and feelings. In Dante's Inferno, unforgiven souls of the sin of lust are blown about in restless hurricane-like winds symbolic of their own lack of self-control to their lustful passions in earthly life.
The demon associated with this sin is Asmodeus
Seven Deadly Sins Makeup Lust

Used: Shiro Cosmetics Zero on the inner corner, Victorian Disco For the Horde over the main lid, Black Rose Minerals One Does Not Simply on the outer corner. The black liner is Femme Fatale Unholy mixed with ELF Lock and Seal, brows are also done using Unholy and then blended out into For the Horde. Lashes are from Eylure. Black eyes are contacts by I think Titan, they're 17mm lenses, though unfortunatley they show way too much iris in the center.
Bonus full face shot, I used Revlon Red Laquer on my lips.

Derpy Hooves Inspired Look

Hey look, I'm adding more looks to my My Little Pony inspired series. This time it's Derpy, a fan favourite.
Derpy or Ditzy Doo is a gray Pegasus who was given the name Derpy Hooves by the show's internet following due to her having a cross-eyed "derpy" expression in the first episode. The name has since been adopted by the crew and Hasbro.

I used  Femme Fatale Polymorph on the lid, with a combination of Victorian Disco Mellon and Shiro Cornucopia on the outer corner and in the crease. The yellow liner is Shiro Cornucopia, with Victorian Disco Steady Aim glitter for the dots. Black liner is collection 2000 extreme felt pen and mascara is L'Oreal Volume Million Excess Noir.

bonus shot! I actually really like this look, wonder if I can find a way to wear it to uni.

Any other MLP characters you think I should do? I still need to do Spike I know. Or any other series/themes you guys would be interested in seeing?

Supernatural Makeup: Sam Winchester

"Last I checked, it wasn't the road to heaven that was paved with good intentions."

Sam Winchester just wanted to be normal. Sadly, that was doomed from the start, even before he was born his future had been laid out. He tried so hard to get out away from the Hunter's way of life but hell had other plans and his College degree and girlfriend all went up in flames. It's been a bit downhill since then, between the demon blood, Lucifer and his terrible choices in women, poor Sammy really has had a bad time of it. And in the end all he wanted was to not let his big brother down.

Sam, with his laptop and his majestic mane of hair, is every bit as loveable as Dean. He's my second favourite Winchester. He's the nerd of the family, but he still kicks ass and looks good doing it. And yes, there are aspects of Sam I totally relate to as well. Like not wanting to let anyone down, and being the nerdy one. Poor Sam had such a hard life, but his character arc over the eight seasons so far has been amazing. He might not be my favourite brother, but the Moose will always hold a place in my heart. [and Jared Padaleki is too big to fit in the TARDIS, this is an endless source of a-moose-ment for me source]

"No, not really. We have guns and we will find you."

Used:
Femme Fatale Candied Apple on inner corner, Black Rose Minerals One Does Not Simply across lid, Black Rose Minerals Scabbed Wings on outer corner, Femme Fatale Unholy in crease. George black liquid liner.

Song for Sam, self explanitory if you've seen Seasons 4 & 5.

Supernatural Makeup: Castiel

"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from Perdition."

Yeah... I got bored and started making graphics.

I'm going to apologise for this now. I started out just wanting to do a Castiel inspired makeup, but it's kind of escalated from there. So expect a lot of Supernatural-inspired makeup spam for a while. At least I'm slowly climbing out of my makeup rut?
Oh and possible spoilers, because I tend to let my mouth, uh typing, run wild and free when it comes to things I feel strongly about in some way. So yeah, watch the descriptions if you're way behind.

It’s funnier in Enochian.

Poor Castiel, he just wanted to help and instead everything manages to fall apart around him while he watches his friends and family dying. No really. Poor Castiel. Always trying to do the right thing and getting his ass kicked for it, or being blown up for it - literally. He's fallen and died and done everything he can to save those he loves, but it rarely works out for the best. Cas has been an angel, a seraph, a God, a Leviathan, high, drunk, fallen and human, but he will always be Castiel, even in End!Verse.

Castiel is and probably forever will be one of my favourite Supernatural characters. There's just so much to love about the little angel who could. Even when he screws up, and lets be honest he has done a few times, it's only because he's trying to help. There's just something so endearing about him, always trying to help out and he loves people so much, even if his "people skills" are a bit "rusty" and he never understands the reference. He risked everything for the earth, and then some. And he does love Dean, in whatever way you wish to take that. Castiel cares a lot for him, and Angels were essentially created to love in the Supernatural universe. As well as kick ass obviously.

Castiel is awesome. A source of humour, pain and joy. It's just too easy to like him. [and Misha Collins is awesome too!]

Castiel: I found a liquor store.
Sam: And?
Castiel: And I drank it.

Used:
MAC Polished Ivory on the inner corner, Black Rose Minerals Skink over the lid, Innocent + Twisted Alchemy Warm & Fuzzy on the outer corner, Darling Girl The Seam in the crease, Darling Girl Saddle Up as a highlight. The "wings" are a combination of Femme Fatale Unholy and Darling Girl ON-X. Liner is Victorian Disco My Feels.

Eyebrows are George pencil, Mascara is Maybelline Falsies, rest of face was naked.

Great song for Cas here. Great song in general really.
